Traveling to South Africa

Next month, I’m traveling to South Africa. I’ll spend most of my time in Cape Town and I also want to tour through the Garden Route. I’m hoping to meet some of the local communities and hear their stories, as well as learn from them.

My trip is being sponsored by a couple of organizations that focus on promoting social justice in South Africa and helping those in need.

I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences and hearing your thoughts on the country. I’m looking forward to hearing how people live in the area, what their concerns are, and what it’s like to be a person of color living in South Africa.

I will be taking lots of photos and recording videos. I’ll try to do as much as possible to keep up with my daily life during my stay. I will also be sending out updates from South Africa so make sure you check my social media for regular posts from my trip.

Curious about South Africa? Here are some fun facts I read:

  • South Africa’s official language is English, but over 20 other languages are also spoken, including Afrikaans, Sotho, Xhosa, Ndebele, Zulu, Tsonga, Venda, Tswana, Pedi, and others.
  • South Africa is a country on the southern tip of Africa. It has an area of 1,214,569 square miles and a population of 52 million.
  • The name South Africa comes from the fact that it used to be part of the Cape Colony. It became a province of the Union of South Africa in 1910 and became an independent country in 1961.
  • The capital of South Africa is Pretoria.
  • South Africa has the largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • The most common religion in South Africa is Christianity.
